project overview.

The Victorian Cancer Trials Link (VCTL) website offers a user-friendly platform for searching all accessible cancer clinical trials within Victoria. The primary objective is to deliver seamless and rapid access to these trials in the Victoria region, catering to both medical practitioners and individuals outside the healthcare field.

The platform has now been successfully launched and is accessible here.

challenge.

Create a dual search platform designed to cater to the distinct needs of both clinicians and non-health professionals, while also creating an educational environment accessible to both user groups.

starting with the basics.

who, what and why.

I initiated the project by formulating a clear strategy and defining the overarching goal of the product—ensuring VCTL's inclusivity as a platform for a diverse range of users. The pivotal function of the product is to empower users to easily access the latest updates on cancer trials, while also serving as a comprehensive repository of cancer-related information. Recognizing the need to accommodate the distinct needs of both user groups, I introduced a dual search functionality as an innovative solution to overcome this challenge.

defining the flow.

I facilitated a workshop to design a flowchart illustrating the platform's structure. During this collaborative session, I worked closely with the client to integrate their envisioned features effectively into the plan.

wireframing.

ready to test with real users.

Once the flow was clearly defined, outlining the necessary screens, I transitioned to crafting wireframes. This step allowed for a deeper exploration of the user experience, examining each screen in finer detail. Central to this effort was prioritizing the search function, which serves as the core of the application.

Following this, a complete site prototype was put to the test with genuine users. Their valuable feedback was thoroughly analyzed, leading to iterative changes and improvements based on their input.

visual exploration.

Following that, I delved into shaping the app's visual identity. To achieve this, we developed three distinct landing for the dual experience page mock-ups. While these mock-ups shared the same layout, they embodied varied styles. I opted for this approach over traditional mood boards, as it vividly presented diverse creative directions to the client, clearly showcasing the potential impact of each approach.

design decision and result.

We streamlined the existing design system, simplifying it and refining the gradient to establish a cohesive light theme with a gentle undertone.

For typography, the Cancer Council's designated font across the entire site. This choice not only maintained uniformity but also fostered a distinctive ambiance that aligns seamlessly with the Cancer Council's identity.
